Inside stories from Syria Revolution - Moving accounts of survival from Damascus, Homs, Hama and cities across Syria..
Syria Witness is a unique social media project coordinated by Middle East Voices, an outreach effort by Voice of America in Washington. As part of our endeavor we seek voices of Syrians to tell personal stories about coping in the face of the deepening crisis in their country.
We invite Syrians to become citizen journalists and send us English language reports or media files in any format. Among the goals of the Syria Witness project is to empower the citizens of Syria to communicate with each other and tell the rest of the world about they are personally impacted by their country’s deepening political and economic crisis. They are encouraged to share how economic sanctions against the regime, street protests, the security crackdown, the deaths and the disappearances, or the loss of public services affect their families, their children, their businesses, and their hopes for a peaceful future for Syria.
Like so many news organizations, we too struggle to get the full story of the Arab Spring uprisings. In the case of Syria, as long as the country’s government severely limits access for foreign media organizations, we depend on ordinary citizens to report what is happening on their streets, in their shops and their homes.
We seek experiences from all: students, bankers, shopkeepers, activists, government employees, fighters on either side of the conflict, lawyers, engineers and revolutionaries.
We will post written, audio, and video reports on this site. If requested, we will protect the identities of those submitting materials. Middle East Voices has set out to become the premier destination for English-language social media in the Middle East. Engage with us in telling Syria’s story as it happens.
